POSITION: Temporary, part-time (10 to 25 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Community Outreach Specialist
LOCATION: San Antonio
DURATION: 26 weeks, June 20, 2016 through December 15, 2016

Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV) is the statewide advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas that engages supporters of reproductive health to fight to protect and expand women’s access to preventative and reproductive healthcare, including abortion. The work at PPTV is fast paced and deals with complex and high priority matters related to the electoral and legislative politics of women’s health in Texas. Our programs range from talking to voters about the politics of abortion to advocating to protect state funding for breast cancer screenings.

The Youth Organizer will lead campus and community outreach activities to engage young people in the fight for reproductive health in Texas, including recruiting new supporters, engaging volunteers, executing effective issue and voter education campaigns, and hosting campus events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit students and young people to support Planned Parenthood and access to reproductive healthcare through campus and community events and actions, including tabling, crowd canvassing, and phonebanking.
  • Promote engagement of existing supporters and development of volunteers through organized events and actions on and off campus, including participating in and leading trainings and facilitating meetings.
  • Build meaningful relationships and partners with campus organizations to further reproductive justice initiatives on campus.
  • Attend local community events on behalf of Planned Parenthood as requested.
  • Additional responsibilities, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
  • Three months of consistent volunteer experience with Planned Parenthood or another progressive organization.
  • Ability to function in a fast paced work environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite, and other technical tools.
  • Participation with PP Generation, Youth Organizing & Policy Institute (YOPI), Student Leadership & Advocacy Meeting (SLAM), and other Planned Parenthood youth activities preferred, but not required.
  • Campaign experience preferred, but not required.

Training

As a Youth Organizer, you will participate in regional, state, and national trainings run by experienced Planned Parenthood staff.  All Youth Organizers are required to attend the Planned Parenthood Youth Power Summit in Houston, August 19-21.  This training will supplement the valuable skills and experience you gain on your campus and in your community.

Compensation

This position is paid hourly at a rate of $10.00 per hour.

Canvass Manager

Canvass Manager

General Description

The Canvass Managers will each oversee a robust door-to door canvass program in one of our several locations in key electoral states to persuade and turn out voters for Planned Parenthood’s preferred candidates. Each canvass manager may manage 1-3 full time professional staff, as well as up to 45 hourly canvassers and team leaders. Canvass managers will be responsible for hitting ambitious recruitment and voter contact goals within their assigned turf (no fundraising required).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the State Director or Deputy Field Director to develop and implement all components of a strategic canvassing operation and budget for each key area
  • Recruit, train, and manage canvassers in each area
  • Develop metrics-driven reporting system to track progress on daily, weekly, and monthly basis and implement rigorous quality control measures
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with client – Planned Parenthood Action Fund or affiliate contact

 Qualifications

  • Experience running paid and unpaid canvass programs
  • Strong leadership qualities and experiencing managing a large number of staff
  • At least 2 cycles of political or issue-based campaign experience with at least 1 cycle managing canvasses
  • Budget management experience
  • Strategic mindset with flexibility to quickly adjust tactics
  • Metrics-driven approach to planning, evaluating, and reporting on progress
  • Experience with VAN
  • Knowledge of political campaigns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in at least one of the target states preferred
  • Experience in canvassing in diverse communities preferred
  • Willingness to relocate to the canvass city for the duration of the campaign with reliable transportation and housing
  • Spanish language a plus, although not required

Operations Coordinator

This campaign will run through Election Day on November 4th – with each Canvass Operations Coordinator working full-time at their assigned site. Reporting to the Canvass Manager at their site, the Canvass Operations Coordinator will manage the canvass hiring process (including on-boarding/off-boarding), as well as day-to-day canvass logistics of their specific location as it relates to this campaign.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruiting of paid canvass staff (up to 45 paid canvassers per location)
  • Oversee the HR process related to the hiring of each canvasser including: pre-screening. interviews, application process, background check & reference check process and new hire paperwork
  • Assist in the logistics of new hire orientation including material development and scheduling
  • Oversee the administrative functions related to the Canvass office including: general office management, payroll coordination, scheduling, timesheet coordination and inventory management
  • Manage quality control phonebanks and processes as needed
  • Assist in the monitoring of the canvass office budget

Qualifications

  • At least 1 cycle experience as a paid Canvasser or Organizer in a political or issue-based campaign
  • Experience managing logistics, operations and budget management
  • Knowledge of political campaigns
  • Excellent organizational ability and ability to multi-task
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality (in handling of HR documentation)
  • Experience in at least one of the target states preferred
  • Experience with VAN and Quickbase is a plus
  • Experience in hiring, canvassing or outreach with diverse populations preferred
  • Willingness to relocate to the canvass city for the duration of the campaign with reliable transportation and housing

Community Outreach Group, LLC is working with Planned Parenthood’s political and advocacy organizations on electoral campaigns impacting women’s health. As part of this campaign, Community Outreach Group, LLC is looking to hire Canvass Data Managers to join this campaign in order to run efficient, effective, data-driven programs at each canvass location. This campaign will run through Election Day – with each Canvass Data Manager working full-time at their assigned site. Reporting to the Canvass Manager at their site, the Canvass Data Manager will cut turf and load all walk lists to canvassing devices, maintain inventory and support of  canvassing devices, train canvassers on the use of canvassing devices and MiniVAN, and report on key metrics and progress-to-goal for each canvass site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates all data needs of local canvass operations.
  • Works with consultants and other staff responsible for campaign efforts
  • Administration and security, training and providing available technical assistance.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software problems.
  • Works with vendors/national staff to resolve any IT issues that may arise.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications needed for consideration:

  • Candidates should have an understanding of common direct target contact programs and at least one cycle of experience in the use of data in candidate or issue-base campaigns.
  • Strong VAN skills are required; familiarity with other online electoral/advocacy tools and constituent relationship management tools is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills are required, as is willingness and aptitude to learn new technical skills.
  • Candidates should have a diplomatic, professional approach to problem solving while working independently or on a team, as well as the ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, works well under pressure, be detail oriented, and meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate discretion and good judgment.
  • Field experience in a volunteer or staff capacity a plus.
  • Data targeting experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Willingness to relocate to the canvass city for the duration of the campaign

General Description

Community Outreach Group is seeking a temporary Administrative Assistant in Austin, TX to provide administrative support to the Executive and Deputy Director to help achieve Planned Parenthood Texas Votes’ strategy for the 2014 general election campaign in support of Wendy Davis and Leticia Van de Putte. The Administrative Assistant will work in conjunction with PPTV’s executive team to provide timely and efficient administrative support by tracking and processing fundraising and financial information (payment requests, invoices, and receipts); scheduling meetings; processing and organizing information requests; formatting documents for public use; maintaining hard and electronic filing systems; and occasionally assisting as onsite support for special events.

Major Responsibilities

  • Entering, tracking and reporting gifts using the development database
  • Tracking and processing invoice, payments and receipts
  • Assisting the executive team with scheduling meetings and maintaining their calendars
  • Organizing and responding to information requests for legislative, electoral, development and media purposes
